Witnessing how some of the most modern and extravagant cities on the planet have been built in the middle of the desert is a wonder to behold. Located on the Arabian peninsula in the Persian Gulf, this rich country is a place where sand dunes merge with skyscrapers.

Skyscrapers, sand dunes and camels

The country is a federation of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sarja and Umm al-Qaywayn. In the capital Abu Dhabi, the Louvre Museum houses an immense collection of European art. The luxurious and enormous shopping malls in Dubai, such as Dubai Mall or the Mall of the Emirates (which has a ski slope inside it!), contrasts with traditional life in areas that have a much more authentic feeling. If you plan to visit the United Arab Emirates and want to have fun outside the big cities, we recommend you enjoy the desert in a 4x4 or on a camel. You can also go hiking in the Al Hayar Mountains, popularly known as the Arabian Grand Canyon. Shuweihat Island is a natural wonder with rocky coves and crystal-clear waters and beaches.
